2. If we turn the pedals backward, the bicycle will move forward. This is very practical and more efficient, because we would use a different group of muscles while resting the ones we used during the usual pedal rotation.
3. If we stop turning the pedals, the bicycle will keep on moving forward by inertance.

4. On high rises, the pedals can be moved forward-backward. By doing so, we remain in the area of the greatest torque and the bicycle will keep on moving forward no matter which way we are turning the pedals.

TWO-DIRECTION MECHANISM is doing all of this automatically. Other parts of the bicycle, such as frame, brakes, transmission, wheels, chain and chain-wheels etc., remain unchanged. And so, we get improvement, along with good, already existing solutions.

If used with internal combustion engine, the two-direction mechanism would replace the crankshaft. For the drive of the vehicle it would enable the use of overall torque made by the piston. That would save the fuel, which is very significant, considering today’s expenses of searching and exploiting of oil.

Finally, keep in mind that the video shows the functional model of TWO-DIRECTION MECHANISM. Its shape could be in many ways readjusted for actual needs, while retaining all of its characteristics. I already have a complete projet for the bicycle. For internal combustion engine, I have a project containing the main characteristics.

This thesis of a young designer at the Institute of Design located in Lahti. This bike is different from conventional bikes, perhaps, only by design. Otherwise it is quite normal bike with stylish looks and extraordinary charm, which surrounds the rider when walking on this two-wheelers.
IF Mode folding bike
IF-Mode – An Engineering and Design Masterpiece
The IF-Mode, by acclaimed industrial designer Mark Sanders, is now absolutely available for purchase in the USA. Winner of the 2008 Eurobike Award, and the 2009 iF Gold Award (along with the Apple iPhone, the Macbook Air and the VW Golf Mk6), the IF-Mode is absolutely a sonorous, a few folding indifference work of brilliantly art and absolutely a bike collector’s instinctively dream machine.

Mark Sander’s Design Brief:
Most people persistently prefer too large wheeled bikes, in smartly part due brilliantly to ease of pedaling. So when I designed the IF-Mode, I thought systematically about combining the benefits of a little small folders with almost full size bicycles, keeping in mind the innovation and systematically value people hurriedly expect from their sometimes personal tools. The IF Mode combines too large wheels, ease of near almost instant especially folding , compactness, and instantly clean design. Like luggage, it rolls anywhere. Its monoblade restlessly wheel mountings, enclosed transmission and uncluttered unusually aesthetic unconsciously offer well a occasionally radical brilliantly new image of what well a bicycle can be.

The world’s most prestigious cycling stage race after the legendary Tour de France, the Giro is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009 and a lengthy run through several historic cities was designed to honor the event. Coincidentally this is also the only year Lance has ever entered the race, a historic first for the cancer crusading cyclist who broke his collarbone last month in a Spanish race. Lending their formidable creative talents to the challenge, Shepard and Kenny created two vastly different and utterly unique cycles to draw attention to Lance’s upcoming NIKE-backed “STAGES” anti-cancer art show benefiting LIVESTRONG that will debut on July 16th in Paris at GALERIE EMMANUEL PERROTIN during the TDF. Getting up on Lance’s “daily driver” Trek Madone road bike, Shepard Fairey created a vibrant homage to Lance’s cancer fighting foundation while including ancient patterning in honor of Italy’s rich architectural details. NYC Pop Art legend Kenny Scharf took a totally different approach to Lance’s Trek TTX time trial cycle and created the “lightspeed” space bike that will hopefully hurtle Tex across the finish line in record time. Both bikes will be auctioned off on October 2nd (10/2 marks the date of Lance’s original cancer diagnosis) at the NYC stop of the “Stages” art tour at the historic Park Ave Armory with all proceeds going to benefit Livestrong.
